Vivec: A Present?
(Continued from Balmora.)
Sneeuw stepped out of the Mages' Guild and looked around, getting her bearings, then headed out the large door that led outside of the plaza. The darkness of the night had deepened from blue-black to a kind of indigo. Sneeuw hustled past an Ordinator (she had had some very unpleasant experiences with Ordinators in the past), and located a smaller door that would lead her through to the higher waistworks. She bypassed the shop owners there and headed downstairs, through another door.
Sneeuw swept down a hall, then found she had gone the wrong way- she should be seeing Aurane Fernis' shop, this was where the club was, then. She turned round and headed in the opposite direction, and found the familiar tapestry with the picture of an open book on it. "Jobasha's Rare Books", it said. She entered.
Another Ordinator stood by a shelf of books, and he turned his helmet-encased head toward Sneeuw as she entered the shop, looking at her through the eye holes in his unfathomable mask.
Sneeuw looked away quickly and headed down, where Jobasha usually stood among his shelves and shelves of books.
"Hello, Jobasha," said Sneeuw uneasily- she was not familiar with the Khajiit, though she knew from hearsay that he was an abolotionist, and from what else she could gather about him, seemed like the sort of person she would like as a friend.
"Greetings," replied Jobasha, purring his 'r's as the Khajiiti sometimes do. "Looking for something?"
"I don't really know yet," Sneeuw said faintly, drifting past a shelf as she scanned the spines.
Knowing her friend, it was possible she already owned every book in the store, so Sneeuw would have to find something very rare and very special.

At length, Sneeuw came across a book called "Vampires of Vvardenfell II". She looked through it carefully, turning the pages gingerly, and confirmed that this was exactly the sort of book that her friend would enjoy. It was rare, which hopefully eliminated the chance she already had it- and it was about vampires. Sneeuw knew all mysterious things captured her friend's mind- the Daedra, the Dwemer, and vampires included.
"How much for this one?" she asked, showing Jobasha the book she had selected.
"The Nord has a good eye," Jobasha said, taking the book and looking at it. "For you? Three hundred and fifty Septims."
Sneeuw whistled through her teeth. Expensive. But then, that was no surprise. She dug out her bag of money and quickly counted out the right amount, which she handed over to Jobasha. The Khajiit sifted the coins through his hands, counting them briefly, then handed the book back to Sneeuw.
"Enjoy," he said, grinning in a way Sneeuw could not help but think of as "mischievous".
"Thank you," said Sneeuw charily, gently tucking the book away in her bag. She passed the Ordinator once more, trying to look as innocent as possible, and left the shop. Having no other business in Vivec, she would return to Balmora.
Continued in Balmora.
